Wild Turkeys

It is so cool to go and feed in the morning. There are Wild Turkeys that roam the property. And, you don't have to have a hunting license if they are on your own property. The first week we were here at the barn, you could hear gun shots. And, they weren't gang related! It was kind of weird. But people hunt different animals on their properties. There are all kinds - turkeys, opossums, skunks, mountain lions (the Nash's have seen one one their property before), and deer. The only catch is, is that if you shoot an animal and you want to mount it on the wall, you have to have a license.

You can hear them in the trees. They are gobbling to each other. I can't explain how cool it is to hear these noises.

They have plenty to eat and water is everywhere, so they usually come out in the early morning, but we have also seen them in the evening when we come back to feed. They don't let us get close to them, but they will hang out with the horses.

There is a HUGE Tom Turkey that comes with his flock. His tail spread is beautiful. I guess they call it - in his full strut. Brandon really wants to shoot this big guy. We are told that they don't taste like our regular Butterball turkeys. They have a wild taste /gamey to them, and they are all DARK meat. Brandon likes that even better. So, we will see if this big guy survives the wrath of Brandon.
