Horses at Melody's

Finally....finally we made it Nashville, Tennessee! (Actually Brentwood, Tennessee). Here is where our friends "the Nashs" live.

Let me go back a bit. We met this amazing family back in our home town of Las Vegas. Hum.. that sounds kinda funny. But anyway, we met them in our church back there. They moved here to Tennessee about 4 years ago to pursue a music career - as Melody has an amazing voice. We have kept in touch off & on thru Facebook.

When we found out that Bart had to come here for work, I looked her back up and let her know that we were headed her way. I asked her if she could help us find a place that we could rent/lease for the year. We wanted to see if there was some property that we could get so that we could bring a few of our horses to play with on our off days. She quickly started sending me links to properties, and also hooked us up with a great real estate lady by the name of Laura.

Anyway, to make a long story short, the horse property that we were looking at fell thru, and we were kinda desperate. Soooo, Melody offered for us to keep the horses at her home. We quickly jumped on the offer, and then started looking for a place that was close to her - so that feeding & caring for them wouldn't be too far of a drive.

So, here we are..... The Nash's Home!

Dan & April

The horses didn't know what to do at first. They had all of this room to run and play. What was this green "stuff" on the ground? What? No dirt?

They have about 28 acres here. It is set up so nicely. There are 4 separate stalls in the barn, and they each have a small run, and then the small runs, can be opened up to a huge -separate- pasture area where they can each eat to their hearts content! An there is NO fighting. (You would be surprised - these horses have a lot of room to move around, and yet they still chase each other at times). Just like kids!

After taking a closer look at the condition of the stables, there was a little tweaking & mending we had to do. So, we turned them loose, and let them have free rein while we went to get supplies to make their stay a bit more comfortable.

We had to run to a feed store to get panels to separate all of them (for nighttime), chain, feed buckets, water buckets, mineral blocks, sweet feed, garbage cans, water hoses & apple treats.

As we are leaving the store, we look over and what is on that leash? A pig! Exactly what I wanted. It was 1 1/2 years old and that is as big as it gets. Awww.... Anyway, no time for that! We have work to do.

Speaking of work. Everytime we turn around, Brandon is goofing off. Man, this kid loves it here!

It took most of the day to get everything all put together and situated, but we got 'er all done, and the horses were happy.

But, and there is always a BUT - we found out that you can't just turn the horses out on raw pasture. Especially if they aren't used to it. They can founder! (Basically get a really bad stomache ache). So, back to the store we went to see if there was something that we could give them to make the transition easier for them.

Nope! All in moderation. So, we had to let them out for a few hours, and then put them up....let them out for a longer period of time, then put them up. You see where I'm going with this?

Anyway, I basically come in the morning each day and let them out first thing. Then, Bart & I come back at the end of the day and lock them into their separate corrals. But for now, they seem to be doing well.

It's nice to finally be here.
