Another Round of Jack

So, we wanted to pack as much stuff into this holiday weekend as we possible could. So, today after a good dinner and a good nights rest, we decided to take Bryce and Beth to Jack Daniels for the tour. (We have been before, but we enjoyed it so much, that we thought they would like it as well). After the hour long drive to Lynchburg, we found out that everyone else had the same idea! It was packed! We had to wait for over an hour just to get a tour! So, in the meantime, I was showing Beth how to use a "selfie stick". We sat in the Jack Daniel's chairs out on the porch until it was closer to our tour time.

Brandon and Bryce hung out together, and even walked down to the little town of Lynchburg because the wait was so long, and they didn't want to sit still. (Sky just started a new job, so she was at work today).
About 30 minutes before our tour started, we went inside to show Bryce & Beth the items on display. It passed some of the time that we had to wait.

Grandma Blood and Bryce sniffin the whiskey!

What a good lookin' bunch of guys!

Brandon held onto Grandma Blood the whole tour. He is very protective of her. Bless her heart, she walked the entire tour (which was about 1 hour long), and even managed to do the stairs! She was a real trouper, and even the guide asked her how old she was....she told him that she was going to be 87 this year, and that she planned on getting to 100! He said that the way she was going, that she was going to do it.

We didn't get to see this vat of charcoal the last time. There were a number of them in this building, and they were all full. These are the leftovers from the wood that they burn. Since there were so many people that they had to get through, they condensed the tour quite a bit. I felt like we were kind of rushed - so I'm glad that we went on the tour already, to fully appreciate it at a slower pace.

This was right in front of the natural spring that they use to make Jack Daniels. This is "Jack on the Rocks!".

The story is told, that Mr. Jack Daniel's came into work early one morning. His assistant was usually the first one there and would open the safe for Jack. Anyway, Mr. Jack wasn't able to get it open for some reason, even though he had the combination, and had opened it many times before. In his frustration, after several attempts to open it - gave the solid steel safe a good hard kick. When he did this, he broke his big toe. He didn't go to the doctor, and after several weeks, infection settled in. He did get his toe amputated, but basically this is what killed him. So, they say that they don't recommend going into work early, as it just might kill you! (They also think now that he might have had diabetes, and just didn't know it).

Grandma Blood was acting like she was drunk after drinking all those bottles of whiskey! They have such weird laws here in Tennessee.

After we got done with the tour, we made the easy walk into Lynchburg. Over the river and thru the woods...

 My attempt at a selfie.

One thing I like about Tennessee is that even tho it's hot and humid, the flowers aren't brown and crunchy. There are all kinds, and they are really beautiful. These were just along our walk.

We took Grandma Blood to go and get a "moon pie". She used to get those when she was a little girl, and they had an old fashioned candy shop there in Lynchburg - so we were able to treat her to one. (I got my favorite too - the Abba Zabba!) teehee

We had lunch in Lynchburg too. Lucky for us we went on the tour when we did, cuz the little restaurant that we ate at - closed at 4:00pm. I think everyone had fun.
