Today there was a break in the job, so Bart, Brandon and I decided that we would load up the horses and head to Percy Werner Park and do some riding since I didn't get to go last time.
It was about a 30 minute drive, and the closer that we got, the stormier it became. Was this a sign, that we weren't supposed to be riding today? There were several trailers already there, so there were people already out on the trail riding. Then, it started pouring right about the time that we go there. Are you serious?! There was tons of lightning too!
There is a golf course right next door, and it was funny watching them race their little golf carts back to the club house. They were going as fast as they could. It was hilarious. We even caught a couple of golfers hanging out under a little shed waiting for the rain to stop. I guess they were die hard players!
Well, lucky for us, we bought Subway for lunch that we planned on eating out on the trail somewhere, but now that it was raining, decided to sit in the truck, and try to wait out the rain. As we were eating, we watched all of the riders start coming out from the trail, riding in the pouring rain. Their saddles, and horses were just drenched! And, of course, they were too. We watched them unsaddle and load up their horses to leave - while we were in the comfort of our truck - nice and dry.
As everyone left, we finished up our sandwiches, and just visited for a bit. Then, the rain slowed down to a slight drizzle.....soooooo, we decided to go ahead and saddle up and take our chances. I'm glad that we did. It turned out to be a great ride. Brandon rode Dan, Bart rode April, and I rode DeeDee.
I didn't realize it, but Brandon had a pistol on his side - (just in case). I told him that I sure felt safer knowing that he had a gun with him. He said, " I can't shoot a dang thing with THIS one, but it sure is loud." ha ha. Thanks Brandon - he was kidding.
Only horses are allowed on this trail. That was great! That way we didn't have to worry about running into people or quads on the trail.
The trail made a complete circle. It rained off and on, but we almost completely covered by the trees, which limited us to getting wet. Although we did get a bit wet, we were still comfortable. It was awesome!
Along the way there are some of these covered eating areas. (This is where we were planning on eating our lunch today). I don't know how you would be able to get all the stuff up in here that you wanted to use for say a BBQ...there was a fireplace too. I guess you would have to pack it all in on horses.
Not the greatest picture, but Bart got April to actually go up into the eating area. She will do anything for him. (Bart was reading what was engraved on the mantel of the fireplace).
DeeDee and I were so much taller than April and Bart, that it made them look like shrimps!
We rode for about an hour, and it never did really rain a whole lot more. It was an enjoyable ride with the guys. I would do it again!
