Cummins Falls

There are about 7 different waterfalls here in Tennessee that are worth seeing. So, today we lucked out in one way - - the guys are off of work due to some welding that needs to be done on the tanks. So, we are jumping at the opportunity to go and do something fun today. We are going to Cummins Falls! It is about 1 1/2 hours away, but we are going!

It seemed like it took forever, but we finally made it!

It is an actual park, so there was a place to park the truck, and a bathroom if you needed it. We even saw "Herbie, the Love Bug" there.

So, off we went - takin' these Rednecks to the River. We didn't' know anything about this place, or what we were getting into, but off we went. The path started out kinda guided - meaning that there was a cleared path to walk on. However, you had to watch for the roots from the trees, and such so that you didn't trip over anything.

We chose to take the downstream shortcut. Both ways lead you to the waterfalls eventually.

These 2 were having the time of their lives. They were goofing off the whole time. It was wonderful to see them getting along so well.

Getting these guys to stop so that I could take pictures was torture for them. After the "marked trail", it emptied into the riverbed. From here, you had to find the easiest way to get up and around to the base of the waterfall. It was extremely rocky!  And when I say rocky, I MEAN ROCKY!

I really had to be careful and watch my every step because of my ankles. But, I was wearing really good tennis shoes. I actually don't think that those water shoes would have been enough. If I would have known that it was this crazy, I might not have attempted it, but after 1 1/2 hours in the truck with those boys, I had to get out!

Brandon and Bryce were in their cowboy boots! But they just trudged through the water. They didn't let those boots slow them down at all.

You could see where the water had come up to during the "rainy" days. It was really low today, and it made it easier to walk through. For the most part, you could walk on the dry areas, or over big boulders, but there were some places that you HAD to walk through the water.

Here I am just walking around this ridge! I had to really climb up and down some of these ridges. Boy and I gonna feel it tomorrow!

Look at all those boulders! We figured out why it was called Cummins Falls - - - because you have to keep on comin around these bends until you get there. But, we finally made it! I thought that there wouldn't be very many people here today, because school "officially" started today. But, I was wrong, there were about 100 people here today. Didn't they know that I was comin today, and that I wanted it all to myself?! lol

There were some life vests that you could use if you wanted, that were supplied by the park. They were just hangin on a line on the side of the falls.

There were people of all ages here. Some even brought their dogs, and were throwing sticks into the water for them to fetch.

Brandon and Bryce decided to take the east way over to the Falls by swimming over. Bryce said that he nearly drown because he had his boots on! He had to change his way of swimming cuz he didn't' want to ditch the boots!

Bart hung back, and helped me get across. We very carefully maneuvered our way through the maze of huge rocks, and then had to jump over the street to get across. All this time, Brandon and Bryce are relaxing on the other side.

It was really pretty too. It was overcast today, and not really that hot, so it was really enjoyable.

I brought my selfie stick with me, so Bart got some good pictures of us this time.

I like this one - cuz we made it all the way there! Yea Baby!

My personal selfie.

It is so beautiful here. The water was nice and cool, not too cold. The waterfall was really peaceful to listen to.

These 3 Rednecks decided to climb up the falls, and stand under the water. I stayed on solid ground and took the pictures. They made it look so easy too.

I liked it because the waterfalls came down, then hit kind of a large flat area where you could stand and enjoy the water coming down, but not be directly in the actual falls.

 Cummins Falls - 2015

At the bottom of the waterfall was a nice size pond. It was pretty deep.

So, the boys decided to check it out. There was a cliff right here, oh say about 8' from the water.

So you know what that means...after a little discussion, Brandon and Bryce decided to jump off the cliff! There were people pointing at them, cuz they were being Rednecks and jumpin in with their boots! They were the entertainment of the afternoon, and Brandon loved every minute of it!

Brandon jumped off first, then Bryce followed shortly after. When he jumped, he said that he went straight down, and never did hit the bottom! The good thing is, is that they got over to the other side much, much, much faster than I did. I had to climb back over all those rocks! (So who is the smart one now?)

Brandon caught a crawfish on the way back. He sucked it up in a bottle. He got tired of carrying it, and decided to let it go. The guys took turns skipping rocks on that way back, and I think that Bart beat them by skipping his the fartherest - 10 skips!

Bryce's boots were so full of water, that on the way back UP- ya I said UP- it was uphill all the way back! My legs were sure feelin' it! Anyway, back to Bryce...he put his boot up on the rail to empty out the water!

Cummins Falls was a blast. We weren't rushed, and we were sure able to enjoy the outdoors, the scenery, and most importantly - FAMILY! (Now for the drive back...)
