Bird Hunting

Bart finally got a day off, so Brandon wanted him to go bird hunting with him. I really didn't want to go, and wanted it to be just a "guys day", but Bart convinced me to get out of the house and go with them. Brandon and Bart are working with an inspector by the name of Brent. Brandon and him have become pretty good friends. Brent lives in Springfield, TN (just like the Simpsons on T.V.) Ha Ha. So, that is where we are today.

There are corn fields planted all over. It is crazy how thick they are. I can now see why they use them for scary movies. You can't see anything! And they poke the crap out of you if you try to run through them.

All of this corn is used for silage - which means that they plant all this corn, then let it die without taking the ears off of the stock, and then they will use it to feed livestock. So, this whole section was dried out and ready to go.

US 2015 - Springfield, TN

This gives you a little better picture as to how much corn there is in one this acre.

Before we went to the actual place that we were going to go bird hunting, we stopped at Brent's home. The guys wanted to shoot a few practice clays. So, they took turns throwing them for each other until they figured they were good and warmed up.

Brent's garage or "man cave" has quite a few deer mounts on his wall. It was cool to see how they were all mounted differently. Brent had put some camo material on the walls, under the deer, but it was a little too thin to see the pattern. So he was going to go back through and put another layer on. But just hasn't had the time to do it yet. It is going to look really nice when it is all done.

Okay, so here we are at the "perfect hunting spot" for dove. There are Bart and Brandon over there, sitting in their huntin' chairs with their trusty guns, locked and loaded jus' waitin' for the birdies to come. I am in the truck. I brought some crocheting to do, a book, and my phone and am sittin' nice and quiet like, as not to disturb them.

Brandon has all of these decoys that he puts out in the meadow to attract the birds. Some are motorized where their wings flap, and there are some that just sit there. I can't believe how much stuff Brandon has for huntin'.

There is a pond right close by to where they are sittin'. Bart walked out there, to see if he could see anything in there. There were a few turtles, and lots of bugs.

This is how interested I am in huntin' birds. Here is a picture of nice purple grass. Ain't it nice? Don't see that in Vegas!

While they were out adjusting their birds (they would go out and move them around, so that it looked like the birds were "moving locations" - I took a picture of their huntin' chairs. They had all their ammo and snacks there to make them nice and comfy. Yawwnnnn.....

Brandon finally shot one. I didn't want to show the whole dead thing....but here is evidence that he got one.

Brandon's bird "calls". He has them all on a lanyard that he made, and used these to get the birds attention I think....and them there red things, are shotgun shells. Hmmm what else is there????

Oh, how about this skull from who know's what? Not much else in these here parts....Oh, was that a bird I hear?

Yep, it was, and Brandon got it. Once he shoots 'em, they drop quick - then he has to go out and find them. So, he has to be his own bird dog too. But he loves every minute of it.

Here are some pretty weeds, and the view from the truck window. My butt is numb from sittin so long. you can only craft, read, and look at Facebook so much!

And the view through the sun roof....yawwwnnnnn.....so boring!

I got so bored, that I was about to poke my eyes out. So, I went and hung out with the guys. I told Brandon that I couldn't be quiet any longer. He said, "Mom, this is bird huntin', you don't need to be quiet." What the?!!! Anyway, we spent all day here. Bart & Brandon got like 14 dove between the 2 of them. I think I will go shopping next time or have dental work done!
