Lonely Bryce

Bryce posted this photo on Facebook today. Since he hasn't been working (work is slow), he is bored to tears. He has been working around the house, pulling weeds, etc. early in the morning, while it is a little cooler, then hangs out in the house during the hottest part of the day, then does some more in the evening. Man I miss this guy....more than he misses us, I am sure.

I went with Bart to do his Home Teaching, and we came across THIS Street, and it made me miss him even more! :(

Horse Poor

Well, the "Dew Poisoning" got to April's nose. I feel so bad for her. This fungus is agressive. See the scabs on her nose? Those all have to be peeled/scratched off. Then Bart washes it with a "special" shampoo that kills the growth of it, and then he puts a nice healing salve on it ($80 for a small jar). She doesn't like it too well when he is picking the scabs, but when he is rubbing in the salve, she really enjoys that. I think it must feel kinda like a mosquito bite. You know when you rub it, it kinda hurts but feels good at the same time. She is so patient as we are trying to cure this stuff.

It all started with her feet, so Bart double checks those each night. But, come to find out, both Dan and DeeDee have it on their muzzles too. It never ends around here! (The vet said that it happens when it is hot and rainy). Well, it has been hot and rainy here, but we see herds of horses all over the place, and it doesn't look like they have it. But then again, maybe their owners aren't checking them and don't care. We take care of our guys - call them spoiled, but if we have them, we take care of them. (We are horse poor! - or soon to be.)

Trimming

We are in charge of our own yard work here. Bart has been mowing the lawn at least once a week, but it was finally time for us to trim the hedges and bushes around the place. They were getting a little out of hand.

This side was the most improved. You can actually see out of the window now.

Not much to do here, but we did trim these guys up a bit. It didn't take us long since we were working together.

Mold & Mildew

The down side to living here is that we are learning all kinds of lessons the hard way. So, tonight we went to go riding, and we get into the horse trailer to get our saddles, and all of them are covered in mold! I'm sure that it didn't help that we put them away wet from our ride at Percy Park. (In Vegas, they would have dried right away). Then with all of the rain and moisture here. It is perfect breeding grounds there in the warm, dark horse trailer.

We have been told that it is a good sign when mold grows on your leather - it means that the leather is of good quality, but it is still disgusting and gross. So, no riding tonight. Let the cleaning begin.

It is growing on all of our saddles....in every nook and cranny.....every stitch.

I got my saddle cleaned up, and set it in the sun to let it get good and dry.

My spurs even had it. Ewwwww.....

Bart's chaps had it, as well as the headstalls. Look how green this one is! It's gonna be a tedious job, and we are just getting started. I didn't realize how much tack we had until we had to clean it. So, we will get started, and will probably finish in a few days.

Brandon's 25th Birthday

Brandon has made it to his 25th Birthday! Man, this guy has been through a lot! But, tonight we celebrated. We took him and Sky to Logan's for a steak dinner.

 Love this Guy!

After dinner, we went back to the house to have dessert. I picked up those "Nothing Bundt Cake" cakes. There was a chocolate - chocolate chip, lemon - raspberry, and a white - white chocolate cake. If you have never had one before, you have GOT to try them. They are so moist and delicious! We split them between all of us, and they were gone FAST!

Then Brandon got to peeking into his gift. Sky got him a Ram hunt for his birthday this year, and he will be going on that this weekend. It is here in Tennessee, and about 1 1/2 hours drive away. He will be going by himself. And, he is so very excited! He has been practicing for weeks, and weeks. I'm so happy that he is happy to be going.

We didn't get him anything too fancy this year, since he has just about everything! So, we got him a ammo box, salt water taffy for his trip, and an Affliction shirt.

Happy Birthday Brandon!
